De La Soul is an American hip hop group formed in 1987 in Amityville, New York, consisting of Kelvin Mercer (aka Posdnuos), David Jude Jolicoeur (aka Trugoy the Dove), and Vincent Mason (aka Maseo). Known for their innovative and eclectic style, as well as their significant contributions to the evolution of the hip hop genre, the group first gained attention with their demo "Plug Tunin".

Over the years, De La Soul developed a distinctive sound, combining eclectic sounds, complex wordplay and a unique, positive outlook, contrasting with the more aggressive trend of rap at the time.
