Regelmäßige Führung: In goldenem Licht
Italy, rich in art and culture and climatically mild, has drawn artists from other, especially northern countries, for many centuries. This included many Dutch and Flemish artists in the 17th century who specialized in landscape painting, a popular standalone genre around 1600. Among them were Jan Both, Adam Pynacker, and Jan Asselijn. These artists formed communities like the Bentvueghels (Bird Flock) in Rome, with Pieter Bodding van Laer forming the Bamboccianti group. After returning to the Netherlands, their work stood out from the Nordic landscapes and darker genre scenes. For example, Cornelis van Poelenburgh painted Italianizing landscapes with mythological, pastoral, or biblical scenes, influencing other artists like Nicolaes Berchem and Jan Wijnants. This exhibition provides a rare opportunity to compare the works of the long-overlooked Dutch Italianates. The paintings are part of a Luxembourg private collection and have never been publicly exhibited.
