Conference - Geology and Terroir, Secrets of Moselle Wines
Join us at the MNHN on January 28th to discover how the science of the earth shapes the art of Luxembourg wines through a fascinating exploration of the geology of the Moselle Valley. In this region, geological diversity plays a fundamental role in the expression of terroir, offering local grape varieties a unique terrain for evolution. Geological formations such as Keuper marl and Muschelkalk limestone create a mosaic of soils that directly influence the structure and chemical composition of wines.
Thanks to a temperate microclimate, softened by the Moselle River, the grapes benefit from gradual ripening, allowing the aromas to unfold with finesse while retaining a refreshing acidity. But the story doesn't end there! In the heart of the sloping vineyards, sustainable soil management works wonders. Low stone walls and plant cover protect this precious land from erosion, while fostering a living ecosystem where micro-organisms play an essential role in soil fertility.
More than just a tasting, it's a journey through geological and human history. Discover how these lands, shaped by time and climate, give birth to elegant, deep and unique wines. And as the region boldly adapts to the challenges of climate change, new grape varieties enrich the diversity of its wines, offering renewed taste experiences.
Come and explore these treasures of Luxembourg's Moselle region, and let yourself be seduced by the harmony between nature and human know-how. A sensory and cultural journey that will awaken your senses and help you discover the many facets of an exceptional terroir.
