… and the animals? Where is our relationship with animals heading
As the largest "minority" in society by numbers, animals are currently under pressure in law, economy, and society. The plight of so-called livestock, laboratory, domestic, wild, and sport animals darkens in times of emotional and economic tightness. How can animal welfare and health, including aspects of pandemic prevention and antibiotic resistance, be promoted in Luxembourg, Europe, and globally? Should this issue be part of the United Nations, and what role do animal-friendly financial investments play? As the former only formal "animal lawyer" worldwide, Swiss lawyer, author, and president of the Global Animal Law GAL association, Goetschel takes us on his journey into the "animal" world with pragmatic visions. Antoine F. Goetschel, Dr. iur. and Dr. h.c., has devoted himself, besides his Zurich law firm, for about forty years to promoting animal welfare through law, as a co-commentator of Swiss and German animal protection legislation, (co-) author of over twelve books on animals in law and ethics in Switzerland and now, as president of the Global Animal Law (GAL) association (www.globalanimallaw.org), globally. With his team, he crafted a draft convention on animal protection and health for the United Nations and works towards its realization, and beyond global law, dedicates to animal-friendly financial investments.
