Opening - Exhibition Between reflections and immersion
The works shown in the exhibition Between Reflections and Immersion at Cercle Cité were presented worldwide for the first time at the 81st Venice International Film Festival in 2024, in the Venice Immersive section. The exhibition invites the public to dive into two distinct artistic universes that are deeply complementary. Through the immersive experiences "Ceci est mon cœur" and "Oto's Planet," visitors are guided in a self-exploration and of the world where technology and creativity unite to push the boundaries of perception and emotion.
The title, Between Reflections and Immersion, reflects the delicate balance that these two works establish between introspection and sensory wonder. It suggests a back-and-forth between the inner, intimate experience and full engagement in environments that challenge our relationship to reality and emotions.
"Ceci est mon cœur" is an immersive and collective work that explores an extraordinary love story, that of a child's reconciliation with their body. Enveloped in a connected garment embellished with luminous embroidery, the work highlights the distorted perceptions we have of our own bodies. "Ceci est mon cœur" offers a sensory odyssey where the connected garment lights up to the rhythm of the story's text. A ballet of lights forms in response to the narrative, designed as a dialogue between the narrator and their own body.
The work celebrates the beauty of human fragility and underscores the importance of self-acceptance. "Ceci est mon cœur" places us face to face with our own essence while connecting us to a poetic universe where the rhythm of our life becomes a work of art. This experience encourages meditation on resilience, the beauty of existence, and how it is intimately linked to our bodies.
"Oto's Planet," winner of the special jury prize at the 81st Venice International Film Festival in the Venice Immersive section as well as the Best Immersive Work Award at the Geneva International Film Festival and the Beyond the Frame Festival in Tokyo, is a virtual reality adventure that transports the spectator into a world vibrant with imagination and interactivity. This work follows the character Oto and his dog Skippy in their daily life on a mysterious planet until an alien appears unexpectedly, disrupting their peaceful life. It immerses the visitor in a rich and playful narrative universe, where each visual, sound, and interactive element contributes to creating an unforgettable sensory and emotional experience.
Beyond its captivating aesthetics, "Oto's Planet" questions our relationship with nature, the unknown, and difference. The work invites the spectator to see the world through the confrontation between Oto and a foreign visitor, the astronaut Exo, thus stimulating reflection on the fear of the other and coexistence in a fragile ecosystem.
Although unique in their approach, these two works unite to form a complete experience where the spectator is both invited to lose themselves in an immersive universe and find themselves in an introspective space. The title of the exhibition makes full sense in this duality: "Ceci est mon cœur" invites an intimate reflection on our own humanity, while "Oto's Planet" opens a window to the outside, exploring the complexities of encountering the unknown.
This exhibition is organized by Cercle Cité as part of the Luxembourg City Film Festival's Immersive Pavilion in close collaboration with Film Fund Luxembourg and PHI Montreal.
