It is posthumously that the Nationalmusée um Fëschmaart (Luxembourg) and the Nei Liicht and Dominque Lang Art Centers (Dudelange) pay tribute to Marc Henri Reckinger (1940-2023), the winner of the Lëtzebuerger Konschtpräis 2024.

Trained in Brussels, Vienna and Paris, Reckinger is a pioneer on the Luxembourg art scene. In the late 1960s, this art education teacher co-founded the two main protest art movements: the Konsdrëffer Scheier, then the Arbeitsgruppe Kunst (1968), renamed Initiative 69. Driven by a libertarian spirit and an anti-conformist spirit, he was among the first to explore avenues of expression that were not common in Luxembourg, such as pop art, hard edge and conceptual art.

Driven by a humanist conscience and a socialist militancy which led him to make a political foray to the left, he returned to his artistic practice at the end of the 70s by pursuing a "realistic" approach, devoid of filter and artifice: in Reckinger, the message is straightforward, accessible to all and pugnacious. His works are screaming rebellion – against social injustices, against capitalist appetite, against the established system, even against the establishment, even in art.

Called upon to honor with an exhibition the winner in 2024 of the Lëtzebuerger Konschtpräis, a biennial visual arts prize awarded by the Ministry of Culture, the museum will present a selection of works emblematic of the fierce commitment that animated Marc Henri Reckinger. Come discover the world of this whistleblower ahead of his time and see how the man and the artist are one, tirelessly putting art at the service of the fight.
