Gregorian Chant Sundays - Schola of Clervaux Abbey
Gregorian Chant Sundays at Clervaux Abbey.
Under the direction of Dom Jacques Prudhomme. On the great organ: Master Gérard Close.
It is mainly through Gregorian chant that Benedictine monks express the inner impulse of their contemplative communal prayer. A precious heritage of Western sacred art, this chant can still transmit to our times a Christian spirit eager to express faith through deliberately cultivated musical beauty. Thus Gregorian melodies provide access to the mystery of the liturgy. Monastic life bears witness to this. Under the direction of Dom Jacques Prudhomme, choirmaster, the schola, still active, contributes especially to the quality of the more demanding pieces. Dom Jacques Prudhomme entered the Abbey of Solesmes (France) in 1970, where he discovered Gregorian chant under the guidance of Dom Joseph Gajard (+ 1972) and perfected his skills with Dom Jean Claire (+ 2006), both choirmasters serving sacred chant in this renowned monastery.
