The immense Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho, who died in June 2023, left a great void. What remains is music with captivating sounds, such as this Winter Sky borrowed from his Orion triptych. Russia is not far from Helsinki, even if Tchaikovsky's Concerto and Rachmaninov's Symphonic Dances were created in the United States. No downside for the first, who is overflowing with brilliance, lyricism and passion, qualities which the Ukrainian Anna Fedorova also abounds in. The Symphonic Dances, initially titled Fantastic Dances, are on the other hand a stunning struggle between shadow and light, concluded with the triumph of the living forces.
