After many adaptations, we are well acquainted with the story of the two rival families of Verona, the Montagues and the Capulets: Romeo Montague sneaks into a masked ball of the Capulets, where he meets Juliet Capulet, whose hand Count Paris has already proposed to. Romeo and Juliet fall in love at first sight and organize a secret wedding ceremony with the help of the friar Laurence. However, Romeo's attempt to stop a duel results in the death of Juliet's cousin Tybalt, leading to Romeo's banishment from Verona. In order to avoid the forced marriage with Paris and to be reunited with Romeo, Juliet agrees to a plan devised by Friar Laurence. It involves faking Juliet's death using a potion. Romeo is supposed to be informed of this plan, but the message fails. When he learns by mistake of Juliet's death, he returns to Verona. Convinced that he has found Juliet dead in the Capulet vault, Romeo decides to end his life. Shortly after, Juliet awakens from her death-like sleep. Horrified by Romeo's death, she grabs her lover's dagger and takes her life as well.
