Midsummer Night's Dream - Theater
After the resounding success of Dreams of a Night... in 2023, Myriam Muller and her energetic artistic team are reprising their adaptation of A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Shakespeare at the Théâtres de la Ville. The play is colorful, where the marvelous contends with comedy, opposing the night – the realm of fantasies, dreams, and visions – to the rigid and conservative real world. Lysander and Demetrius are in love with Hermia, who has chosen the former, while the latter is loved by Helena. Hoping to resolve their quarrels, the young people take refuge in a forest where, come nightfall, reality shifts into a dream with the intervention of a powerful love potion. Fairies, elves, an amateur actors troupe rehearsing Pyramus and Thisbe for the Prince's wedding, and other men with donkey heads meet in this strange and magical forest, a place of all possibilities, during an enchanting summer night, allowing the young people to escape the rigors of family dictates and give free rein to their wildest passions. Built on the typically baroque principle of theater within theater, the play allows for a fantastic reflection and is a tribute to theater. With an open and surprising scenic setup, Dreams of a Night invites the audience to celebrate a communion between the stage and the hall. The play enables pleasure, exchange, participation, and creates a moment of pure theatrical joy by summoning all forms of the performing arts. A grand moment of celebration!
