"Art" is a play that hardly needs any introduction. A contemporary classic, it has been performed in 57 countries around the world and has won countless prestigious awards ("Molières", "Tony Award"). "Art" was a questioning of contemporary art and a cruel autopsy of the bourgeoisie and masculinity. The play highlights the ambivalence of friendly relationships, ultimately asking a simple but complex question: what is the value of things? The value of art. Does art have a value? If so, is it quantifiable? Monetizable? Does art itself serve any purpose? And what is the value of friendship and our relationship to others, to power, to bourgeois traditions, to money?
Behind the worldly exchanges of three city dwellers lies their insecurity, their individual thirst for recognition and this need to claim their place. In the violence of their confrontations a new question emerges: what binds us to others? Time, habit, tastes? What is the basis of friendship?
So many questions asked with the hilarious force of comedy which allows us to talk about profound subjects through humor.
