"What did this new life cost us? My father, his voice; my mother, her liveliness. And me?" Fleeing the war in Yugoslavia, a family takes refuge in a country of immigration that does not wish to be one. This book tells the story of the relationship between a girl, whose only reason to live is to become the perfect immigrant, and her father, who loses himself trying to help her succeed. The superbly laconic Toxische Pommes releases her first novel. Since the coronavirus pandemic, she has been highly successful on social media with short satirical videos on society's strengths and weaknesses, and recently, she has also been performing on stage with a cabaret program. Toxische Pommes is actually named Irina in real life and works as a lawyer in Vienna. She has hundreds of thousands of followers on TikTok and Instagram and performs her cabaret program "Ketchup, Mayo & Ajvar - The Seven Deadly Sins of the Foreigner" to sold-out venues in Austria and Germany. In 2024, her first novel "Ein schönes Ausländerkind" was published by Zsolnay. Jérôme Jaminet, born in 1979, is a teacher, author, and literary critic. From 2014 to 2017, he hosted the weekly literary show "Book Look" on Eldoradio. From 2018 to 2020, he was in charge of the literary section "Les Bar" of the Lëtzebuerger Journal. Since 2021, he has been co-hosting with Bea Kneip the RTL podcast on books "BicherLies." As an independent literary critic, he works among others for Deutschlandfunk Kultur, Cicero, and the Neue Zürcher Zeitung am Sonntag. Last year, he published his second book "Ein Wort in Esels Ohr" with Capybarabooks.
