In the framework of the exhibition "Radical Software: Women, Art & Computing 1960-1991," Mudam invites Sylvia Eckermann and Viviane Kübler to converse about queer feminist practices and the history of programming and hacking. Both have researched the power of narratives in the digital realm and their interaction with the IRL public sphere. This conversation will emphasize the potential resistance of feminist digital practices.
In Sylvia Eckermann's work, a discursive engagement with form and media culminates in critical artistic reflections about our entanglement as individuals in current socio-economic situations. Eckermann works with various media, including digital and physical environments, installations, videos, objects, and sculptures. She is the first recipient of the City of Vienna Award for Media Art (2014) and was awarded the Austrian State Prize for Media Art (2018). She lives and works in Vienna.
Viviane Kübler's research focuses on resistance to privatization in the digital sphere, concentrating on current queer feminist hacktivist methods that make it possible to disrupt operational processes and take up space in a digital extension. Her work aims to develop blueprints to make it easier for people from the cultural scene and those interested to participate in the resistance. Viviane Kübler is a freelance cultural worker based in Vienna.
