“While searching for a title for this project, we were suddenly captivated by the term 'boogie'. The meanings of the word are multiple. From the apparent musical reference to one of Mondrian's last works, through Dragon Ball Super, it's also an old spelling from the late nineteenth century to mean a mucus ball in the nose, an Argentine cartoon character used as a parody of the extreme right, the title of a 1997 film by Paul Thomas Anderson, a recent exhibition by artist Alexis Blake, and probably others to discover and delve into.
Boogie, is alive, complex, and evolving. Some connotations are more pleasant than others. It's about recognizing its diverse facets, following its rhythm, and embracing its complexity, its resonances, and dissonances. We won't be fooled; we will strive not to be passive. Boogie will thrive as long as we are engaged. Its rhythm is graphic, its tonality round in the mouth. Our exploration of Boogie attempts to elicit new perspectives on curatorial experimentation. We see it as a method to infuse our work with unique spontaneities.
Thus, the ground floor exhibition spaces will be transformed into a laboratory for curatorial and artistic experiments that the Boogie method will articulate. Collaborations with artists and other creatives are underway and will be clarified during the summer.”
