Vera Kox (1984, Frankfurt am Main) is a German-Luxembourgish artist who lives and works between Berlin and Luxembourg. Her work has been exhibited in numerous international institutions and galleries, including Stavanger Art Museum, Esch2022 Sculpture Trail, Skulpturen Triennale (Bingen), Galleri Opdahl (Stavanger), Cosar (Düsseldorf), Kunstraum Bethanien (Berlin), Ribot (Milan), KINDL - Centre for Contemporary Art (Berlin), Musée d'art régional d'Occitanie MRAC (Sérignan), and Mudam Luxembourg (Luxembourg).
In 2023, she was a resident at CERCCO - Centre for Experimentation and Research in Contemporary Ceramics at the Geneva School of Art and Design, and in 2024, she will be an artist in residence at Cerámica Suro factory in Guadalajara, Mexico, and at Bridderhaus in Esch/Alzette.
In her sculptural work, Vera Kox explores the interconnection between the environment and human and non-human life forms. She examines the complex inherent properties of different materials, often combining handmade ceramic elements with industrial semi-products, which blend into her installations as fossilized hybrids of our modern civilization. During her research travels in extreme climate natural areas, as well as during international artist residencies, Kox collects impressions and imprints which she presents in a new body of multimedia works.
In "Sentient Soil", her first solo exhibition in a public institution in Luxembourg, Vera Kox will present a selection of older works alongside pieces specially created for her exhibition at Konschthal Esch, inviting visitors into an unusual universe.
