This unique evening, presented by Eloi Bernard from the Tolkiendil association, will explore the profound impact that the Great War had on the life and work of the author of The Lord of the Rings. Tolkien, who served as a signals officer during the Battle of the Somme, was deeply affected by his experience in the trenches. The conference will highlight how this historical period influenced the creation of Middle-earth and shaped the themes of his most famous works. It will be based on extensive research, including the works of John Garth. A unique opportunity to discover how a writer's personal history can transform a traumatic experience into a monumental literary work.
