At the start of the Second World War, in May 1940, around 400,000 British, French and Belgian soldiers found themselves surrounded by German troops in the Dunkirk pocket. Operation Dynamo was set up to evacuate the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) to England. The story focuses on the intertwined destinies of the English soldiers, pilots, sailors and civilians during Operation Dynamo. While the BEF was evacuated through the port and beaches of Dunkirk, three British soldiers, with a little ingenuity and luck, managed to board under the bombing. A much greater journey awaited them: the crossing of the Strait of Dover.
