From Sanremo to Eurovision: Music Without Borders
Meeting/debate with historian Dean Vuletic, author of "Eurovision Song Contest. A European History." He will be in conversation with Ornella Mollica Ranucci.
The Eurovision Song Contest is one of the largest and most important musical and television events in the world, followed every year by hundreds of millions of people across Europe and beyond. Founded in 1956 in the image of the Sanremo Festival, won three times by Italian artists and organized three times in our country, it has been involving European public broadcasters in a competition that brings together different traditions, music cultures, and entertainment models for decades.
This book demonstrates how Eurovision is the ideal tool to explain almost 70 years of European history, spanning post-war and Cold War periods, the development of Western democracies, post-communist Eastern Europe, growing nationalisms, the integration process, archival research, and more. Dean Vuletic is a historian specializing in modern European history. As an author, commentator, and speaker, he is the world academic authority on the history of the Eurovision Song Contest.
