John D, a septuagenarian living in a luxury hotel on the French Riviera, is intrigued by a neighbor who reminds him of the wild days of the Riviera in the 1960s. Back then, he was a spy in a rapidly expanding world full of promise. Yet when the neighbor mysteriously disappears, John is forced to confront his demons. Are his old adversaries back to wreak havoc in his idyllic world?
Set within a highly referential universe, this film reinvents the spy thriller by spanning two eras to explore a life of once vivid yet now faded fantasies. With relentless inventiveness, Cattet and Forzani have created a swift and frenetic film where death assumes the most exquisite of veils.
