A short monologue about a long time by Guy Helminger. Directed by Liss Scholtes, featuring Jil Devresse, Brigitte Urhausen, and Philippe Thelen. Stage design by Soojin Oh, assistant director Béatrice Paquet, technical direction by Pascal Klein.
Is every autobiography a lie, an invention? What is the truth in what Guy Helminger tells? And when personal identity is already a narrative, how does it appear when it concerns a group or nation?
The character, Guy, is fed up with alternative truths, well-meaning but ill-thought-out narratives.
Locked in Kasemattentheater, he monologues about the Prime Minister, about Luxembourg, about how the harmony of identity is nothing but the melody of totalitarianism. Here, he encounters scenes from his life, his thoughts and behaviors. Parents, childhood friends, love appear.
Everything is dissected. Nothing fits together.
Homogeneity seems like a mismatched puzzle, a core that results from a reduction that left something overlooked. And that is what people call identity. Absurdly, grotesquely, Guy says, laughing at the whole commotion as much as the audience might laugh at his chatter.
