Gertrude, Hamlet's mother, and King Claudius summon Rosencrantz and Guildenstern to the court of Elsinore to monitor Hamlet, whose behavior is strange to say the least. Following the performance of a play requested by Hamlet, which is a veritable indictment against Claudius, the latter summons the two men to leave for England with Hamlet and entrusts them with a letter in which he asks the British Court to execute the prince.
