Selinunte - Art and culture of a Sicilian city
🔍 The Luxembourg Committee of Dante Alighieri presents:
**SELINUNTE**
*Art and culture of a Sicilian city*
On Friday, April 4th, at 7:00 PM at the Dante hall - Rue St Ulrich 25, Luxembourg Grund.
The Selinunte and Cave di Cusa Archaeological Park is one of the largest archaeological sites in Europe and among the most significant colonies of ancient Greece, with a continuity of life stretching from the 7th to the 4th century B.C. This discovery has been pivotal in understanding the evolution of Doric architecture and the development of ancient Greek cities. The archaeological evidence within not only demonstrates the refinement of the Doric style achieved by Sicilian temple workshops but also represents the advanced urban development of the most notable ancient Greek colonies.
Professor Beatrice Cunsolo, an art history lecturer and cultural heritage conservator, will accompany us on this journey to discover Selinunte, unveiling its historical treasures through images and videos of its most iconic locations and sculptural works preserved in the Archaeological Museum Salinas of Palermo. Special focus will be on some restored artifacts from the latest excavation campaigns.
The event will be followed by an Italian aperitif inspired by Sicily.
