Hello everyone! Let's continue exploring the list of book club members' suggestions for this year. This new novel, titled 'Queenie' and written by the British novelist Candice Carty-Williams, is a coming-of-age novel. It has been adapted for screens into a TV series. It tells the story of Queenie Jenkins, a 25-year-old Jamaican British woman living in London and straddling two cultures. She works at a national newspaper, being the only Black employee and facing several challenges. After a breakup from her long-term White boyfriend, Queenie seeks comfort in all the wrong places... We follow her on a journey full of twists and turns as she discovers her true self. This novel entered the Sunday Times Bestseller hardback chart and was selected for the Women's Prize for Fiction 2020 longlist. It has also been described in the media as 'a smart and breezy comic debut' and 'astutely political, an essential commentary on everyday racism.' The book is available for loan from Luxembourg libraries.
