eLfy invites herself for a brunch at ... Claire Parsons'
As you can no longer see the local artists on stage, we decided to come to their house and meet them, to have a brunch and show you their talents live from home! And for a first, eLfy went to Claire Parsons' for a brunch in her studio 🎵🌹
Claire Parsons, a 27-year-old jazz singer born in Luxembourg with English parents. When she is not performing on stage, she gives singing lessons at the music school of Differdange and she continues to study jazz by pursuing a master's degree in Brussels. Music has surrounded her since her early childhood thanks to her mother, it's her passion, we found her thanks to the Crazy Quarantine Sessions.
Here you'll find the live video, the best moments if you want to watch them again, and the interview transcribed if you prefer to read it!

'WITH THE NEW RULES, IT IS SAID THAT NO MORE THAN 5 PERSONS ARE ALLOWED IN A CONCERT VENUE... SO MAYBE JAZZ CONCERTS WILL STILL BE ABLE TO BE ORGANIZED! 🤣'
THE GREAT TRANSCRIBED INTERVIEW:
eLfy: how do you qualify yourself in terms of music?
Claire: I listen to a bit of everything, I like pop, rock, jazz, metal. My style is a mix of everything I like.
eLfy: for you, what does the lockdown imply, concretely?
Claire: like everyone else, a lot of things change. I am a person who likes to be in contact with others, to give hugs. I would like to share all the love I have. Regarding my job, all our concerts have been cancelled and usually, at this time of the year, they are a lot of festivals...
eLfy: and how do you imagine coming out of the crisis?
Claire: no idea, I think it's going to be quite difficult, people's trust has been affected. There is a huge risk that they won't come back to see concerts right away, because we don't know what we're allowed to do or not. In jazz, we joke about this, as the rules say, it is said that no more 5 persons will be allowed in a concert venue, so maybe Jazz concerts will still be able to be organized.
eLfy: has confinement been a creative moment for you?
Claire: Yes, curiously enough! Instead of being an active period, it's a very creative period. I wrote several songs, participated in live initiatives that allowed me to let off steam.
eLfy: you're releasing an album in the next two days? Did you write it here, at home, or before the lockdown?
Claire: in 3 weeks officially, but in the hands in 2 days. I'm still a student at the conservatory in Brussels. This year I had the honour to follow a composition course with an amazing teacher who motivated me and gave me a lot of ideas for writing and composing, which I used in my album. All year long, I worked on this first album 'In Geometry', which revolves around geometrical forms, the way of composing was also based on geometrical forms. For example, one of the songs is called 'Pyramids' and keeps a 3-step structure.
eLfy: do you plan to organize some gigs after that?
Claire: yes at the Schungfabrik in Tetange on October 3rd 2020. We will first do an online album release (available on May 29th here) with the musicians: Eran Har Even (guitar), Jérôme Klein (keys and percussions), Pol Belardi (bass) and Niels Engel (drums).
eLfy: you often say that music is a "state of mind", that you have it in your blood, how do you manage to transmit this as a teacher?
Claire: Singing is something that should give joy to the one who sings and who listens, today's music comes from the United States and everything is based on Gospel music. Even if you don't like your voice, you mustn't forget the essential, this 'joy'. You can have the best voice in the world but not have this joy. Gospel music is a state of mind that allows you to free yourself.
THE SUPER 'TAC O TAC'
eLfy: which artist you listen and cherish over and over again?
Claire: Sufjan Stevens, since I'm 12 years old, there has not been a week that I don't listen to him since then?
eLfy: an artist with whom you would dream to do a duet on stage?
Claire: With him! Of course! 😊
eLfy: your favourite concert hall in Luxembourg or in the region?
Claire: The Robert Krieps hall in neimenster, the audience is as high as a Roman theater, and the stage is plunged in the dark, it gives a totally different emotion, I love it!
eLfy: which song gives you the good mood in lockdown?
Claire: A Rita by Rita Payes, I listen to it over and over again, when I'm cooking, when I'm taking my bath...
eLfy: do you take advantage of the lockdown to watch movies or series?
Claire: I have a problem, I am addicted to "The Office" (American version) since the beginning of the lockdown.
eLfy: your favourite drink of the lockdown?
Claire: I drink a lot of black tea.
eLfy: do you prefer breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner?
Claire: Brunch! All English people like brunch, it's a tradition, we usually add baked beans, very 'fat', I love it!
eLfy: what is your favourite restaurant or bar?
Claire: De Güdde Wellen and the Rotondes with its terrace.
eLfy: if we dream of seeing Claire in person (bad joke apart), where do we have a chance to meet you for sure?
Claire: on Sunday morning at the neimenster's apéro Jazz.
