Beer or wine? What glass shards reveal about ancient times. The Department of Decorative and Popular Arts (ADP) is dedicated to showcasing preserved elements from historical noble and bourgeois houses where its permanent exhibition is presented. Walking through this part of the National Museum, the visitor can learn a lot about the former residents and learn to read architectural remains. To do this, knowledge from archive research and excavation discoveries are integrated into the visit. Particularly rare objects have been discovered in the latrines of the old inner courtyard and are glass fragments dating from the 15th to the 17th century. They have been assembled through painstaking puzzle work, then restored according to the rules of art. Simple glasses and rare luxury objects have become recognizable, recounting past consumption habits and mainly bearing witness to the wealth of certain inhabitants of the houses on Wiltheimstraße.
